FlavourFest also features Celebrity Guests, cooking demonstrations, seminar sessions, entertainment, wineries and restaurants, cocktail flaring showcases, Kids in the Kitchen and exhibits packed with tasty offerings, fresh produce and specialty merchandise.
Two of FlavourFest's celebrity guests - Callam Hann and Alvin Quah from 2010's MasterChef - spoke to Sunny Days.
Callum Hann
CH: I made mum pancakes for Mothers Day. I must have been 7 or 8 years old. SD: You were once a student, what is a great dish for a student (or even a family on a budget) to prepare? CH: For budget cooking, I like to buy a whole chicken. If you get shown how to break it down into the different cuts, for about $8 you have two breasts (a meal!) two thighs/legs (another meal!) and then the carcass you can make soup from. SD: What are you going to share with the audience at FlavourFest? CH: I have a few delicious recipes up my sleeve, and will hopefully share some tips and tricks of working efficiently in a kitchen. SD: Is there a dish that you love to have someone else prepare for you? CH: It’s hard to go past a roast dinner, when someone else makes it for me it brings me straight back to when I was a child. Alvin Quah SD: You started cooking at a young age, how can parents encourage a love of cooking and good food in their kids? AQ: By allowing them to experiment within a safe boundary. Allow them to make mistakes but also let them into your cooking world, when you are cooking. SD: What was the best part of your MasterChef experience? AQ: The skills we learnt and acquired along the way. SD: What are you going to share with the audience at FlavourFest? AQ: Malaysian Butter Prawns and Gado Gado. SD: Is there a dish that you love to have someone else prepare for you? AQ: Anything from Nigella Lawson. SD: What are your plans and hopes for the future? AQ: To expose the public to the wonderful South East Asian cuisine.
