Pearlie is based on Pearlie the Park Fairy books by Wendy Harmer. It’s hard to divorce the name Harmer from comedy, but if you are expecting the series to be funny, think again.
Pearlie’s evil cousin, Saphira, is the resident ‘baddy’ who tries to foil Pearlie’s good deeds and, in Episode Two, I kid you not, wreck Pearlie’s hair-do.
Whether the intended six-year-old audience will appreciate that Pearlie and friend Jasper are ‘having some chillin’ time’ at the day spa, the subject matter is definitely lightweight, if not totally age inappropriate. This is a co-production between Harmer and a Canadian production company which accounts for the American and fake Aussie accents. Visually stunning, but as airy fairy as you can get.
