Newcastle Region Art Gallery will hold a series of art workshops this July school holidays, guaranteed to inspire and amuse children of all ages and abilities. Program Manager Tristan Sharp says the workshops will give students the opportunity to use the Gallery’s current exhibitions as inspiration when creating their own artistic pieces. “The aim is to encourage our young participants to connect with the art works presently on display in the Gallery and relate to them in a fun way.” During the first week students will use printmaking to interpret the artworks included in the ARTEXPRESS exhibition. In the following week they will be inspired by the contemporary and colonial curiosities on display in Curious Colony: A twenty-first-century Wunderkammer. Using a variety of materials, students will explore the different sculpture techniques adopted by artists whose works are included in the exhibition. The workshops will cater for children of all ages with specific classes for children aged 5 to 8 years, 9 to 12 years and 12 to 15 years. Classes will be limited to 15 students and taught by local artists, with activities and discussions specifically designed to address the interests and skills of the group. School holiday workshops will run from Tuesday 6 July until Friday 9 July and Tuesday 13 July until Friday 16 July. The cost is $22 per child and bookings are essential. Great activity for kids My children have been to these art workshops before and they are fantastic. Definitely worth looking into if you have kids that enjoy being creative. |
